Using Magnets to Change the Feel of a Cube
Concepts: CAD, 3D printing, magnetism
These days, most rubik's cubes perform great. Instead, people pick what their competition puzzles are based on feel. In 2015, cubes became magnetized, which gave a bumpy feel to the cube allowing for more precise turning and stability. However, that bumpy feel can be quite jarring for individuals who would prefer having the stability without the tactility. I explored a new way of magnetizing a cube based on newly released patents by manufacturer Gan and the results were surprising.
